Dr. Martha Wang
Introduction
Welcome and thank you for taking time to read about my work. I am a licensed psychologist in Oregon (license #2518) and have been licensed since 2014. I specialize in providing psychological evaluations for Autism Spectrum Disorder. I work with children as young as two years old for early identification and up through adults who are looking to better understand themselves. I also provide more general diagnostic clarification and treatment recommendations for therapy. I am not currently providing any ongoing treatment with therapy.
*Please note that I do not do neuropsychological, custody, forensic or Court evaluations.
Education, Training, & Background
I completed my doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA. I also hold a Master of Arts degree in Theology. I am privileged to have had diverse training opportunities throughout graduate school and in post-graduate supervision. I was mentored in private practice work starting early on in graduate school where I worked with young children with developmental disabilities. I also worked in the school district as an aide which afforded me insight into the educational system and special education practices. My first foray into assessments was at the UCLA Autism Evaluation Clinic where I spent a year meeting individuals with ASD and their families. For my internship year, I worked at Pacific Clinics in Los Angeles, CA. My primary placement was through the Asian Pacific Family Center where I had opportunities to develop programming and build relationships with immigrant families. I also worked at a day treatment center for children and adolescents.
I graduated from Fuller in 2013 and moved to Salem to work at the Oregon Youth Authority for my pre- licensure residency. After a year in OYA, I ventured into private practice and set up shop doing a combination of therapy and psychological evaluations. I returned to contract work with OYA in 2018 and have been seeing youth for psychological evaluations since then. I maintain a small practice for evaluations on the side. For this reason, my wait list tends to be long. I typically only see one to two new clients for evaluations each month.
Long ago, I attended Scripps College in Claremont, CA and majored in psychology and music. It was at the Claremont College consortium that I first began working with individuals with autism.
In my work now, I feel privileged to have the opportunity to walk alongside individuals and families who are seeking answers to improve their quality of life.
Psychological Assessment Process
The evaluation process typically consists of three appointments.
The first appointment is to review history, concerns, and presenting problems.
A second appointment is needed to complete the testing. For Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) evaluations, this involves the administration of a semi-structured assessment and a cognitive evaluation. If there are additional factors such as mood disorders and other diagnostic rule-outs, there will likely be some more extensive testing. As part of the evaluation, I also collect several different questionnaires.
Following this appointment, I will need to gather all of the testing materials (sometimes provided to teachers, parents, and other parties with relevant perspectives), evaluating and integrating the results, and creating a thorough report which reviews the data, my clinical perspective, and a diagnostic result.
The third, and typically final, appointment is a feedback session to review the evaluation results, diagnoses, and recommendations. I also provide a copy of the report at the last appointment.
Current Availability, Waitlist, and Timeline
As of December 2024, my waitlist is currently closed. I anticipate reopening the waitlist in August 2025. Thank you.
Once the initial evaluation begins, the process typically takes approximately 3-4 weeks for results.
